ABSTRACT

Los cereales integrales son una categoría de alimentos fundamental para la dieta humana y representan una fuente invaluable de carbohidratos, proteínas, fibras, fitoquímicos, minerales y vitaminas. Muchos estudios han demostrado que el consumo de cereales integrales está relacionado con un menor riesgo de enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles. Sin embargo, varios de sus efectos positivos para la salud parecen desaparecer cuando se refinan los cereales. La pregunta de investigación es cuál sería el efecto de los cereales integrales en la prevención de enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles. Este artículo describe los efectos positivos del consumo de cereales integrales en la prevención de estas enfermedades. Para ello, se realiza una descripción narrativa que revisa los antecedentes disponibles sobre: a) situación epidemiológica en Chile y su relación con la alimentación; b) consumo de cereales integrales en el mundo y en Chile; y c) el efecto del consumo de cereales integrales en la reducción del riesgo de enfermedad cardiovascular. obesidad, diabetes tipo 2 y cáncer. Los antecedentes generales son muy alentadores sobre el efecto positivo del consumo de cereales integrales sobre determinadas enfermedades, especialmente las de origen metabólico. Sin embargo, la incertidumbre de algunas asociaciones negativas merece mayor atención.


Whole grains are a fundamental food category for the human diet and represent an invaluable source of carbohydrates, proteins, fibers, phytochemicals, minerals and vitamins. Many studies have shown that consumption of whole grains is linked to a lower risk of chronic non-communicable diseases. However, several of its positive health effects seem to disappear when grains are refined. The research question is what would be the effect of whole grains in the prevention of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases. This article describes the positive effects of whole grain consumption in these diseases.To this end, a narrative description is made that reviews the available background on: a) epidemiological situation in Chile and its relationship with diet; b) consumption of whole grains in the world and in Chile; and c) the effect of whole grain consumption on reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. The general background is very encouraging for a positive effect of whole grain consumption on certain diseases, especially those of metabolic origin. However, the uncertainty of some negative associations deserves further attention.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This systematic review aims to compare the clinical longevity of metallic and fiberglass intraradicular posts in teeth with severely compromised crowns, utilizing randomized clinical trials and case reports published in the last eleven years. Material and Methods: The research was conducted on PubMed, Medline, Lilacs, and BBO databases using the first search strategy with the descriptors 'dental posts,' 'longevity,' 'fiberglass-reinforced posts' or 'metallic posts.' The second search strategy involved analyzing the references of articles identified by the first search. Both studies were carried out with stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: No statistically significant and clinically relevant differences in longevity were observed between metallic and fiberglass posts. Conclusion: The clinical success and durability of the restorative procedure using intraradicular posts primarily depend on the remaining amount around the post (ferrule), the type and position of the tooth in the arch (impacting the masticatory forces exerted on the restored tooth), and the correct application of the cementation technique. It is noteworthy that fiberglass posts offer substantial advantages by presenting a modulus of elasticity similar to dental structure, ensuring a more homogeneous distribution of masticatory forces and reducing the risk of fractures. These findings have practical implications for material selection in restorative procedures involving intraradicular posts.(AU)


Objetivo: Esta revisão sistemática visa comparar a longevidade clínica de pinos intrarradiculares metálicos e de fibra de vidro em dentes com coroas severamente comprometidas, através de estudos clínicos randomizados e relatos de casos, publicados nos últimos onze anos. Material e Métodos: A pesquisa foi conduzida nas bases de dados PubMed, Medline, Lilacs e BBO, utilizando a primeira estratégia de busca com os s 'pinos dentais' e 'longevidade' e 'pinos reforçados com fibra de vidro' ou 'pinos metálicos'. A segunda estratégia de busca consistiu na análise das referências dos artigos identificados pela primeira estratégia. Ambos os estudos foram delineados com critérios rigorosos de inclusão e exclusão. Resultados: Não se constataram diferenças estatisticamente significativas e clinicamente relevantes na longevidade entre pinos metálicos e de fibra de vidro. Conclusão: O êxito clínico e a durabilidade do procedimento restaurador empregando pinos intrarradiculares dependem primordialmente da quantidade de remanescente ao redor do pino (férula), do tipo e posição do dente na arcada (o que impacta nas forças mastigatórias exercidas sobre o dente restaurado) e da aplicação correta da técnica de cimentação.Destaca-se que o pino de fibra de vidro oferece vantagens substanciais ao apresentar módulo de elasticidade similar à estrutura dentária, assegurando uma distribuição mais homogênea das forças mastigatórias e reduzindo o risco de fraturas (AU)

ABSTRACT

Abstract The nerve terminal and muscle membrane compose the neuromuscular junction. After opening the voltage-gated calcium channels, action potentials from the motor axons provoke a cascade for the acetylcholine release from synaptic vesicles to the synaptic cleft, where it binds to its receptor at the muscle membrane for depolarization. Low amplitude compound muscle action potential typically presents in presynaptic disorders, increasing by more than 100% after a 10-second effort in the Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome and less in botulism. Needle electromyography may show myopathic motor unit action potentials and morphological instability ("jiggle") due to impulse blocking. Low-frequency repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) is helpful in postsynaptic disorders, such as myasthenia gravis and most congenital myasthenic syndromes, where the number of functioning acetylcholine receptors is reduced. Low-frequency RNS with a decrement >10% is abnormal when comparing the 4th to the first compound muscle action potential amplitude. High-frequency RNS is helpful in presynaptic disorders like Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome, botulism, and some rare congenital myasthenic syndromes. The high-frequency RNS releases more calcium, increasing the acetylcholine with a compound muscle action potential increment. Concentric needle records apparent single-fiber action potentials (spikes). A voluntary activation measures the jitter between spikes from two endplates. An electrical activation measures the jitter of one spike (one endplate). The jitter is the most sensitive test for detecting a neuromuscular junction dysfunction. Most neuromuscular junction disorders are responsive to treatment.


Resumo O nervo terminal e a membrana muscular compõem a junção neuromuscular. Após a abertura dos canais de cálcio dependentes de voltagem, os potenciais de ação do axônio motor provocam uma cascata de eventos que libera acetilcolina das vesículas para a fenda sináptica, ligando-se ao receptor na membrana muscular para despolarização. O potencial de ação muscular composto de baixa amplitude ocorre nas desordens pré-sinápticas, aumentando em mais de 100% após esforço de 10 segundos na síndrome miastênica de Lambert-Eaton e menos no botulismo. A eletromiografia pode mostrar potenciais de ação da unidade motora miopáticos e instabilidade morfológica ("jiggle") devido ao bloqueio do impulso. Estimulação nervosa repetitiva (ENR) de baixa frequência é útil nos distúrbios pós-sinápticos, como miastenia gravis e a maioria das síndromes miastênicas congênitas, quando há número reduzido de receptores de acetilcolina funcionantes. ENR de baixa frequência com decremento >10% é anormal comparando-se à amplitude do quarto com o primeiro potencial de ação muscular composto. ENR de alta frequência é útil nas doenças pré-sinápticas, como síndrome miastênica de Lambert-Eaton, botulismo e algumas síndromes miastênicas congênitas raras. ENR de alta frequência libera mais cálcio, aumenta acetilcolina, resultando em incremento do potencial de ação muscular composto. O eletrodo de agulha concêntrico registra potenciais de ação aparente de fibra única (PAAFU). Ativação voluntária mede jitter entre dois PAAFUs (duas junções neuromusculares). Ativação elétrica mede jitter de um PAAFU (uma junção neuromuscular). Jitter é o teste mais sensível para detectar disfunção de junção neuromuscular. A maioria dos distúrbios juncionais é responsiva ao tratamento.

ABSTRACT

Introducción. La calidad de los carbohidratos consumidos juega un papel importante en la prevención de las enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles (ECNT). Objetivo. Analizar el índice de calidad de los carbohidratos (ICC) en la población urbana costarricense y su relación con las variables sociodemográficas, antropométricas y la calidad y la diversidad de la dieta. Materiales y métodos. Los datos provienen del Estudio Latinoamericano de Nutrición y Salud, en una muestra representativa de 798 personas entre 15 y 65 años que residen en zonas urbanas de Costa Rica (2014- 2015). En una visita domiciliaria se administró un cuestionario para recolectar los datos sociodemográficos y se pesó y midió a los participantes. El consumo dietético se obtuvo mediante dos recordatorios de 24 horas en días no consecutivos. El ICC se calculó mediante el consumo de fibra, el índice glicémico, la relación carbohidratos sólidos/líquidos y la relación granos enteros/granos totales. Se comparó el ICC según el sexo, el grupo de edad, el nivel socioeconómico, el estado nutricional, la circunferencia de cintura y la calidad y diversidad de la dieta de los participantes. Resultados. El ICC se asoció positivamente con un mayor consumo de energía, carbohidratos totales, proteínas, grasas, colesterol, frutas, vegetales y leguminosas (p<0,001). Un mayor ICC se asoció positivamente con un mayor porcentaje de adecuación de micronutrientes y mayor índice de diversidad y calidad de la dieta (p<0,001), así como con un menor índice de masa corporal y una menor circunferencia de cintura al ajustar por sexo y edad (p<0,005). Conclusiones. El presente estudio demostró que un mayor ICC se asocia significativamente con mejores indicadores dietéticos e índice de masa corporal, por lo que resulta fundamental establecer en Costa Rica pautas dietéticas que permitan aumentar la calidad de los carbohidratos de la dieta con el fin de contribuir en la prevención de las ECNT(AU)


Introduction. The carbohydrate quality index (CQI) plays an important role in the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCD) and adequate macro and micronutrient intake. Objective. To analyze the carbohydrate quality index (CCI) in the Costa Rican urban population and its relationship with sociodemographic and anthropometric variables and the quality and diversity of the diet. Materials and methods. Data come from the Latin American Nutrition and Health Study (ELANS), in a representative sample of 798 people between 15 and 65 years of age who reside in urban areas of Costa Rica (2014-2015). During a home visit, a questionnaire was administered to collect sociodemographic data, and participants were measured and weighed. Dietary intake was obtained through two 24-hour recalls in non- consecutive days. The CQI was calculated using fiber intake, glycemic index, liquid/solid carbohydrate ratio, and whole grain/total grains. CCI was then compared according to sex, age-group, socioeconomic level, nutritional status and diet quality and diet diversity. Results. The CQI was positively associated with energy intake, total carbohydrates, proteins, fats, cholesterol, fruits, vegetables, and legumes (p<0,001). Also, CQI was associated with a higher percentage of micronutrient adequacy and diet quality and diversity (p<0,001), as well as with a lower body mass index and lower waist circumference when adjusting for sex and age (p<0,005). Conclusions. The present study showed that higher CQI is associated with better dietary and body mass index, which shows that it is essential to establish dietary guidelines for public health in Costa Rica that allows increasing the quality of carbohydrates in the diet to contribute to the prevention of chronic NCD(AU)

SUMMARY: The preserved form of all components of the nerve fiber is a prerequisite for the proper conduction of the nerve impulse. various factors can change the shape of nerve fibers. In everyday practice, qualitative histological analysis is the gold standard for detecting changes in shape. Geometric morphometry is an innovative method that objectively enables the assessment of changes in nerve fibers' shape after local anesthetics action. A total of sixty sciatic nerves were used as material, which was intraneural injected with saline solution in the control group (n=30), and a solution of 1.33 % liposomal bupivacaine (n=30) in the test group. After the animals were sacrificed, nerve samples were taken and histological preparations were made. The preparations were first described and examined using a qualitative histological method, after which digital images were made. The images were entered into the MorphoJ program and processed using the method of geometric morphometry. Qualitative histological examination revealed no differences in nerve fibers after intraneurally applied physiological solution and liposomal bupivacaine. Using the method of geometric morphometry, a statistically significant change in the shape of axons was found after intraneurally applied saline solution and liposomal bupivacaine (p=0.0059). No significant differences in histological changes were found after the qualitative histological analysis of nerve fiber cross-section preparations. A statistically significant change in the shape of nerve fiber axons was observed after geometric morphometric analysis of digital images after intraneural application of saline and liposomal bupivacaine.


La forma conservada de todos los componentes de la fibra nerviosa es un requisito previo para la conducción correcta del impulso nervioso. Varios factores pueden cambiar la forma de las fibras nerviosas. En la práctica diaria, el análisis histológico cualitativo es el estándar de oro para detectar cambios de forma. La morfometría geométrica es un método innovador que permite evaluar objetivamente los cambios en la forma de las fibras nerviosas después de la acción de los anestésicos locales. Se utilizó como material un total de sesenta nervios ciáticos, que se inyectaron intraneuralmente con solución salina en el grupo control (n=30), y una solución de bupivacaína liposomal al 1,33 % (n=30) en el grupo de prueba. Después de sacrificados los animales, se tomaron muestras de nervios y se realizaron preparaciones histológicas. Primero se describieron y examinaron las preparaciones utilizando un método histológico cualitativo, después de lo cual se tomaron imágenes digitales. Las imágenes fueron ingresadas al programa MorphoJ y procesadas mediante el método de morfometría geométrica. El examen histológico cualitativo no reveló diferencias en las fibras nerviosas después de la aplicación intraneural de solución fisiológica y bupivacaína liposomal. Usando el método de morfometría geométrica, se encontró un cambio estadísticamente significativo en la forma de los axones después de la aplicación intraneural de solución salina y bupivacaína liposomal (p = 0,0059). No se encontraron diferencias significativas en los cambios histológicos después del análisis histológico cualitativo de las preparaciones de secciones transversales de fibras nerviosas. Se observó un cambio estadísticamente significativo en la forma de los axones de las fibras nerviosas después del análisis de morfometría geométrica de imágenes digitales después de la aplicación intraneural de solución salina y bupivacaína liposomal.

ABSTRACT

As lesões dentárias traumáticas são um problema de saúde pública mundial, dentre as quais a fratura dentária é a de maior ocorrência, envolvendo principalmente os dentes anteriores. A abordagem de grandes fraturas anteriores é um desafio para cirurgiões dentistas de qualquer nível pois, além da função, afetam diretamente a estética do paciente, fazendo-se necessário um planejamento que envolva diferentes especialidades na odontologia. Objetivo: Relatar um caso clínico de reabilitação funcional e estética de fratura dentária nos incisivos centrais superiores envolvendo tratamento endodôntico, instalação de pino de fibra de vidro e restauração direta em resina composta. Relato de Caso: O paciente de 17 anos sofreu fratura nos incisivos centrais superiores causada por uma queda de bicicleta. Devido à busca tardia por tratamento o elemento 21 foi diagnosticado com necrose pulpar e, portanto, foi submetido à tratamento endodôntico pela Técnica Crown Down e reabilitação com pino de fibra de vidro Splendor-SAP. Posteriormente, os elementos 11 e 21 foram restaurados com facetas diretas em resina composta pela técnica incremental. Conclusão: A reabilitação com instalação de pino de fibra de vidro associada à técnica de estratificação incremental em resina composta se mostra como uma boa opção para reabilitação estética pois permite dar forma anatômica ao dente com riqueza de detalhes na estratificação da dentina e esmalte, além de máxima preservação da estrutura dental. Os resultados obtidos reforçam o sucesso estético e funcional com significativo impacto na qualidade de vida do paciente(AU)


Traumatic dental injuries are a worldwide public health problem, among which dental fractures are the most frequent, mainly involving the anterior teeth. The approach of large anterior fractures is a challenge for dental surgeons of any level because, in addition to function, they directly affect the patient's esthetics, requiring a plan that involves different specialties in dentistry. Objective: Report a clinical case of functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of dental fractures in maxillary central incisors involving endodontic treatment, installation of a fiberglass post and direct restoration in composite resin. Case Report: The 17-year-old patient suffered a fracture in the upper central incisors caused by a fall from a bicycle. Due to the late search for treatment, element 21 was diagnosed with pulp necrosis and, therefore, underwent endodontic treatment using the Crown Down Technique and rehabilitation with a Splendor-SAP fiberglass pin. Later, elements 11 and 21 were restored with direct veneers in composite resin using the incremental technique. Conclusion: Rehabilitation with the installation of a fiberglass post associated with the incremental layering technique in composite resin is a good option for aesthetic rehabilitation as it allows the anatomical shape of the tooth with rich details in the layering of dentin and enamel, in addition to maximum preservation of the tooth structure. The results obtained reinforce the aesthetic and functional success with a significant impact on the patient's quality of life(AU)

En el presente estudio se evalúa la incorporación de cáscaras de zanahoria como ingrediente en galletas en diferentes concentraciones, de esta manera se pueden disminuir los desperdicios además de aprovechar nutrientes, compuestos bioactivos y fibra dietética de las cáscaras. Se recolectaron cáscaras de zanahorias, se lavaron, deshidrataron a 60°C por 24 horas y posteriormente de molieron finamente para obtener harina de cáscara de zanahoria (HCZ). Se desarrollaron galletas con la incorporación de 0, 5, 10 y 20% de HCZ en reemplazo de harina (Muestras CZ0, CZ5, CZ10 y CZ20 respectivamente). Se evaluó la preferencia y aceptabilidad sensorial de las muestras de galletas, mediante prueba de ordenamiento y escala hedónica de 9 puntos por parámetros (apariencia, color, aroma, sabor, textura, aceptabilidad general) respectivamente. También se evaluó la saciedad producida por su consumo mediante "Cociente de Saciedad" (CS) que utiliza la Escala Visual Análoga (EVA) para cuantificar el estado de saciedad en diferentes tiempos. Se determinó el contenido de fibra dietética (FD) en la HCZ y en las muestras de galletas por método enzimático-gravimétrico. Los resultados demostraron que la muestra CZ20 logró la primera preferencia sensorial y la mayor aceptabilidad sensorial en forma significativa (p<0.05). La incorporación de HCZ en galletas produjo aumento del contenido de fibra dietética y del CS. En base a los resultados obtenidos se concluyó que la mejor opción resultó ser la galleta con 20% de HCZ, ya que sensorialmente es la de mayor preferencia y de mayor aceptabilidad, contiene más fibra dietética y provoca más saciedad.


In the present study, the incorporation of carrot peels as an ingredient in cookies in different concentrations is evaluated, in this way, waste can be reduced in addition to taking advantage of nutrients, bioactive compounds, and dietary fiber from the peels. Carrot peels were collected, washed, dehydrated at 60°C for 24 hours, and then finely ground to obtain carrot peel flour (CPF). Cookies were developed with the incorporation of 0, 5, 10, and 20% of CPF in replacement of flour (Samples CZ0, CZ5, CZ10, and CZ20 respectively). The preference and sensory acceptability of the cookies samples were evaluated using an an-Ranking test and a 9-point Hedonic Scale by parameters (appearance, color, aroma, flavor, texture, general acceptability) respectively. The satiety produced by its consumption was also evaluated through the "Satiety Quotient" (SQ) which uses the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to quantify the state of satiety at different times. The dietary fiber (DF) content in the CPF and in the cookies samples was determined by the enzymatic-gravimetric method. The results showed that the CZ20 sample achieved the first sensory preference and the highest sensory acceptability in a significant way (p<0.05). The incorporation of CPF in cookies produced an increase in the content of dietary fiber and SQ. Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that the best option turned out to be the cookie with 20% CPF, since sensorially it is the most preferred and most acceptable, contains more dietary fiber and causes more satiety than the other samples.

Introduction: Cerebral Palsy (CP) is characterized by a disorder of posture and movement, commonly leading to disabling orthopedic alterations, including muscle shortening, especially in the lower limbs. Stretching methods, performed gradually, are necessary to delay the impairment in function from muscle shortening. The use of serial casting aims to promote proper alignment, and an ideal and stable support base, in addition to better bone and joint health, leading to better posture, mobility, muscle function, and, subsequently, increased fitness and health.Objective: evaluate range of motion, postural control, and motor performance in children with CP, using serial casting, as well as to measure its effect on fitness through the autonomic nervous system (ANS).Methods: Sixty children and adolescents with CP, of both sexes, 3 to 12 years of age, will be divided into three groups: Groups A, B, and C, with 20 individuals each. Group A will use serial casting, Group B will use the orthosis continuously (with removal only allowed for bathing), and Group C will use the orthosis in their daily routine. Range of motion of the ankle of first and second resistance levels (R1 and R2), gross motor function measure (GMFM), and balance (measured by BERG scale) will be used in the initial and final assessments, and after 6 months and one year of follow-up. Timed-up-and-go (TUG), load distribution (baropodometry), motor performance measured through a real basketball game and the virtual MoveHero game, analysis of body angulation with "mydartfish", and cardiac autonomic modulation through heart rate variability will be assessed in three different situations: barefoot, with orthosis, and with casting.Conclusion: Serial casting demonstrates the potential to produce positive results in the treatment of individuals with CP regarding better alignment, with consequent motor and autonomic improvement.

ABSTRACT

Las barras de cereal (BC), se comercializan como un snack saludable, no obstante, su calidad nutricional es baja. Una alternativa para mejorar esto, es la incorporación de ingredientes como pseudocereales, germinados y subproductos de fruta. Objetivo. Evaluar el contenido nutricional y propiedades tecnofuncionales de una barra de cereal formulada a partir de pseudocereales, germinados de soya y subproductos del procesamiento de frutas. Materiales y Métodos. Se desarrollaron 6 formulaciones (F0-F5). Se determinó el contenido de proteína y fibra cruda, se seleccionó la formulación que presentó el mayor contenido de estos componentes. A la BC seleccionada se le determinó la digestibilidad in-vitro de la proteína, las propiedades tecnofuncionales potencial prebiótico y actividad inhibitoria de ECA-I. Resultados. La formulación seleccionada fue F1 (13,6 g/100 g p.s. proteína y 13,1 g/100 g p.s. fibra cruda). La digestibilidad de la proteína fue del 69 %, el cual es cercano a valores reportados para algunos componentes de la BC. La capacidad de hinchamiento y retención de agua fue 2,55 ml/g; 12,74 %, respectivamente. El crecimiento de L. brevis en medio MRS modificado con BC no presentó diferencias estadísticas con el medio control, indicando el potencial prebiótico presente en la BC. Introduction. Cereal bars (CB) are marketed as a healthy snack; however, their nutritional quality is low. An alternative to improve this is the incorporation of ingredients such as soybean sprouts, which have a higher protein content than some seeds; as well as fruit by-products that contain important bioactive compounds. Objective. To evaluate the nutritional content and techno-functional properties of a cereal bar formulated from pseudocereals, soybean sprouts, and fruit processing by-products. Materials and Methods. 6 formulations (F0-F5) were developed. The content of protein and crude fiber was determined, the formulation that presented the highest content of these components was selected. The in-vitro digestibility of the protein, the technofunctional properties, potential prebiotic and inhibitory activity of ACE-I were determined for the selected BC. Results. The selected formulation was F1 (13.6g/100g p.s. protein and 13.1g/100 g p.s. crude fiber). Protein digestibility was 69%, which is close to reported values for some CB components. The swelling and water retention capacity was 2.55 ml/g; 12.74%, respectively. The growth of L. brevis in modified MRS medium with CB did not present statistical differences with the control medium, indicating the prebiotic potential present in CB. The cereal bar had 39% ACE-I inhibitory activity, demonstrating the action of bioactive compounds possibly released during CB digestion. Conclusion. The developed formulation has important functional properties and could generate health benefits(AU)

ABSTRACT

Background: Apple pomace is a by-product of the fruit juice industry and comprises peel, seed, stem, and pulp tissues. This by-product contains dietary fibers, polyphenols, vitamins, and organic acids that can benefit human health and have a high potential as a dietary source. Baked products are well-known food types to humans and have a key role in feeding people worldwide. Nowadays, enriched products such as bread, cakes, and biscuits are available in stores. Different studies worldwide have been done about applying the by-products of the fruit juice industry in the bakery. Objective: This research aimed to evaluate apple peel (APE) and pulp (APU) powders separately as a partial substitute for wheat flour in cake production. Methods: Apple peel and pulp separately produced as the residual wastes of juicing were dried for 3 hours in oven (60°C). The dried pulp and peel were ground and sieved using a 60 µm mesh. In this research, chemical and physicochemical analyses were performed according to AACC (Approved Methods of the American Association of Cereal Chemists) and standard food analysis methods. Textural characteristic was analyzed by a texture analyzer (Brookfield CT3-10 Kg, US) equipped with an aluminum probe. Results: Different levels of APE and APU powders (10%, 20%, and 30 %) were used to enrich the cakes. The ash content, fat content, water adsorption capacity, and oil absorption capacity of the wheat flour were lower than APU and APE, whereas the moisture content, protein content, bulk density, and pH showed a reverse trend. Adding APU and APP to the cake formula increased total dietary fiber (TDF) from 4.14 % in the control sample to 27.71 % in the sample with 30 % apple peel powder (APE-30). The highest a* colorimetric parameter (redness) in the cake core was 3.82 in the APE-30 sample. The addition of APE and APU significantly increased the hardness, gumminess, and chewiness of the samples (p<0.05). APE-10 samples could improve the nutritional properties of the cakes without significant reduction (p>0.05) in overall acceptance compared to the control sample. Conclusion: The results of this research demonstrated that a partial replacement of the wheat flour with apple pulp and peel significantly increased the dietary fibers, especially insoluble dietary fiber, compared to the control sample. Apple pulp and apple peel powders had the potential for use in cake making as a good source of dietary fibers


Antecedentes: la pulpa de manzana es un subproducto de la industria del jugo de frutas y se compone de tejidos de cáscara, semillas, tallo y pulpa. Este subproducto contiene fibra dietética, polifenoles, vitaminas y ácidos orgánicos que pueden ser beneficiosos para la salud humana y tienen un alto potencial como fuente dietética. Los productos horneados son de tipos de alimentos bien conocidos para los seres humanos y son clave en la alimentación de las personas de todo el mundo. Hoy en día, los productos enriquecidos como pan, pasteles y galletas están disponibles en las tiendas. Se han hecho diferentes estudios en todo el mundo sobre la aplicación del subproducto de la industria del jugo de frutas en la panadería. Objetivo: El propósito de esta investigación fue evaluar los polvos de cáscara de manzana (APE) y pulpa (APU) como sustituto parcial de la harina de trigo en la producción de pasteles. Métodos: Cáscaras de manzana y pulpa producidas por separado como desechos residuales de jugos, se secaron durante 3 horas en el horno (60 °C). La pulpa seca y la cáscara fueron molidas y tamizadas usando una malla de 60 micras. En esta investigación el análisis químico y físico-químico realizado de acuerdo con el AACC (Aprobado Métodos de la Asociación Americana de Químicos del Cereales) y los métodos estándar de análisis de alimentos. La característica textural fue analizada por el analizador de textura (Brookfield CT3-10 Kg, US) equipado con una sonda de aluminio. Resultados: Se utilizaron diferentes niveles de polvos APE y APU (10, 20 and 30 %) para enriquecer los pasteles. La capacidad de absorción de ceniza, grasa, agua y aceite de la harina de trigo fue menor que la APU y APE, mientras que la humedad, la proteína, la densidad a granel y el pH mostraron una tendencia inversa. Además, APU y APE en fórmula de pastel, aumentaron la fibra dietética total (TDF) de 4.14 % en la muestra de control a 27.71 % en la muestra con un 30 % de polvo de pelar de manzana (APE-30). El parámetro más alto a* colorimétrico en núcleo de pastel fue de 3.82 (enrojecimiento) en la muestra APE-30. La adición de APE y APU aumentó significativamente la dureza, gomosidad y masticabilidad de las muestras (p<0.05). Las muestras de APE-10 podrían mejorar las propiedades nutricionales de los pasteles sin reducción significativa (P<0.05) en aceptación general, en comparación con la muestra de control. Conclusión: Los resultados de este estudio demostraron que un reemplazo parcial de la harina de trigo por pulpa de manzana y cáscara aumentó significativamente la fibra dietética especialmente la insoluble, cuando se compara con la muestra de control. La pulpa en polvo y la cáscara de manzana tienen el potencial de uso en la fabricación de pasteles como una buena fuente de fibra dietética.

ABSTRACT

The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is essential in the execution of cognitive tasks, however very little is known on how these neurons are modulated during specific tasks and which subtype of neurons are responsible for so. Therego, with the intention of addressing this issue, we recorded mPFC gabaergic and glutamatergic activation patterns through fiber photometry (FIP) in mice, while simultaneously performing the Barnes Maze (BM) cognitive task (4 day behavioral trial). In addition, an altered structural and procedural protocol for BM was validated in this study due to necessary modifications allowing FIP and BM to happen simultaneously. A successful protocol validation was followed by our preliminary results, which showed that both glutamatergic and gabaergic neurons presented significant change in activation intensity and number of events in specific contexts throughout the task days. In addition, when stratified and crossed with BM performance parameters, such as latency to complete tasks and adopted strategy, glutamatergic and gabaergic neurons presented a significant decline in both activation patterns and number of activation events throughout the days. This data suggest not only an important role of glutamatergic and gabaergic mPFC neurons in learning, memory and decision making, but also that activation patterns of each of these groups may serve as markers for cognitive progression and/or dysfunction. O córtex pré-frontal medial (mPFC) é essencial na execução de tarefas cognitivas, no entanto, pouco se sabe sobre como esses neurônios são modulados durante tarefas específicas e qual subtipo de neurônios é responsável por isso. Portanto, com a intenção de abordar essa questão, registramos os padrões de ativação de neurônios gabaérgicos e glutamatérgicos do mPFC por meio de fotometria de fibra (FIP) em camundongos, enquanto realizávamos simultaneamente a tarefa cognitiva do Labirinto de Barnes (BM) (ensaio comportamental de 4 dias). Além disso, um protocolo estrutural e procedimental alterado para o BM foi validado neste estudo devido a modificações necessárias que permitiram a realização simultânea de FIP e BM. Uma validação bem-sucedida do protocolo foi seguida pelos nossos resultados preliminares, que mostraram que tanto os neurônios glutamatérgicos quanto os gabaérgicos apresentaram mudanças significativas na intensidade de ativação e no número de eventos em contextos específicos ao longo dos dias da tarefa. Além disso, quando estratificados e cruzados com parâmetros de desempenho do BM, como latência para completar as tarefas e estratégia adotada, os neurônios glutamatérgicos e gabaérgicos apresentaram uma diminuição significativa nos padrões de ativação e no número de eventos de ativação ao longo dos dias. Esses dados sugerem não apenas um papel importante dos neurônios glutamatérgicos e gabaérgicos do mPFC na aprendizagem, memória e tomada de decisões, mas também que os padrões de ativação de cada um desses grupos podem servir como marcadores de progressão e/ou disfunção cognitiva. Abstract In recent days, cheapest alternative carbon source for fermentation purpose is desirable to minimize production cost. Xylanases have become attractive enzymes as their potential in bio-bleaching of pulp and paper industry. The objective of the present study was to identify the potential ability on the xylanase production by locally isolated Bacillus pumilus BS131 by using waste fiber sludge and wheat bran media under submerged fermentation. Culture growth conditions were optimized to obtain significant amount of xylanase. Maximum xylanase production was recorded after 72 hours of incubation at 30 °C and 7 pH with 4.0% substrate concentration. In the nutshell, the production of xylanase using inexpensive waste fiber sludge and wheat-bran as an alternative in place of expensive xylan substrate was more cost effective and environment friendly.


Resumo Nos últimos dias, a fonte alternativa de carbono mais barata para fins de fermentação é desejável para minimizar o custo de produção. As xilanases têm se tornado enzimas atraentes como seu potencial no biobranqueamento da indústria de papel e celulose. O objetivo do presente estudo foi identificar a capacidade potencial na produção de xilanase por Bacillus pumilus BS131 isolado localmente usando lodo de fibra residual e farelo de trigo em meio de fermentação submersa. As condições de crescimento da cultura foram otimizadas para obter uma quantidade significativa de xilanase. A produção máxima de xilanase foi registrada após 72 horas de incubação a 30 °C e pH 7 com concentração de substrato de 4,0%. Resumindo, a produção de xilanase usando lodo de fibra residual de baixo custo e farelo de trigo como uma alternativa no lugar do substrato de xilano caro foi mais econômica e ecológica.

Statement of problem: the bond strength between adhesive cement and root dentin can be affected by irrigation protocols. Purpose: therefore, the objective of this systematic review was to answer the following question: Do irrigation solutions used during root canal instrumentation influence the adhesion of glass fiber posts to root dentin? Material and Methods: this study followed the recommendations of PRISMA 2020 for writing. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and LILACS databases were searched for articles published until 26 January, 2022. Grey literature and a manual search were also performed. The inclusion criteria were based on the PICO strategy: permanent human or animal teeth (P), which were irrigated during root canal instrumentation with endodontic substances (I) and compared to irrigation with sodium hypochlorite at various concentrations (C) to analyze the bond strength of glass fiber posts (O). Two authors independently performed data extraction and the risk of bias. Results: eight articles were included. Four articles were classified as having a high risk of bias, where the others as medium risk. Studies have reported conflicting results regarding the influence of irrigating solutions and the different concentrations of sodium hypochlorite on the adhesion of glass fiber posts to root dentin. Conclusion: the heterogeneity between studies did not allow the conclusion of a true estimate regarding this topic, and further well-designed studies are needed to clarify this issue. Definição do problema: a resistência de união entre o cimento adesivo e a dentina radicular pode ser afetada pelos protocolos de irrigação. Objetivo: portanto, o objetivo desta revisão sistemática foi responder à seguinte questão: As soluções de irrigação usadas durante a instrumentação do canal radicular influenciam a adesão de pinos de fibra de vidro à dentina radicular? Material e Métodos: este estudo seguiu as recomendações do PRISMA 2020 para sua redação. As bases de dados PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science e LILACS foram pesquisadas para artigos publicados até 26 de janeiro de 2022. A literatura cinza e uma pesquisa manual também foram realizadas. Os critérios de inclusão foram baseados na estratégia PICO: dentes humanos ou animais permanentes (P), que foram irrigados durante a instrumentação do canal radicular com substâncias endodônticas (I) e comparados à irrigação com hipoclorito de sódio em várias concentrações (C) para analisar a resistência de união de pinos de fibra de vidro (O). Dois autores realizaram independentemente a extração de dados e o risco de viés. Resultados:oito artigos foram incluídos. Quatro artigos foram classificados como de alto riscode viés, enquanto os demais como de médio risco. Estudos relataram resultados conflitantes sobre a influência de soluções irrigadoras e as diferentes concentrações de hipoclorito de sódio na adesão de pinos de fibra de vidro à dentina radicular. Conclusão: a heterogeneidade entre os estudos não permitiu a conclusão de uma estimativa verdadeira sobre este tópico, sendo necessários mais estudos bem delineados para esclarecer esta questão. Objective: The aim of this in vitro study w as t o analyze the influence of the titanium dioxide nanotubes i n a self-cure mode polymerization of a dual resin luting agent through push out bond strength and radiopacity tests. Material and Methods: After mixed with a commercial du al self-adhesive resin cement, three concentrations o f tit anium dioxide nanotubes (0.3, 0.6, and 0.9% by weight) we re analyzed in self-curing mode. T he bond strength to bovine root dentin and fi berglass posts was assessed with the push out bond str ength t est and was evaluated in three thirds (cervical, middle and apical) (n=10), followed by failure mode analysis (SEM), and the ISO standard 9917-2 was followed for radiopacity test (n=10). Data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA test, followed by Tukey's test (α=0.05). Results: Reinforced self-adhesive resin cement with 0.6% titanium dioxide nanotubes showed significant difference compared to the control gr oup for push out test (p=0.00158). The modified groups did not s how significant difference among thirds (p=0.782). Radiopacity sh owed higher value for group w ith 0.9% titanium dioxide nanotubes in comparison w ith control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: The addition of titanium dioxide nanotubes to a self-adhesive resin cement increased the bond strength to dentin and radiopacity values in the self-cure polymerization mode (AU)


Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo in vitro foi analisar a influência de nanotubos de dióxido de titânio na polimerização química de um agente cimentante resinoso dual através de testes de resistência à união e radiopacidade. Material e Métodos: Após misturado com um cimento resinoso auto-adesivo comercial, três concentrações de nanotubos de dióxido de titânio (0,3, 0,6 e 0,9% em peso) foram analisadas. A resistência da união para a dentina da raiz bovina e os pinos de fibra de vidro foi avaliada pelo teste de push-out e avaliada em três terços (cervical, médio e apical) (n = 10), seguido pelo análise de modo de falha (MEV) e a norma ISO 9917-2 foi seguido para teste de radiopacidade (n = 10). Os dados foram analisados estatisticamente pelo teste ANOVA um fator seguido do teste de Tukey (α = 0,05). Resultados: O cimento resinoso auto-adesivo reforçado com nanotubos de dióxido de titânio a 0,6% mostrou diferença significativa em comparação com o grupo controle para teste de push-out (p=0,00158). Os grupos modificados não mostraram diferença significativa entre os terços (p=0,782). A radiopacidade mostrou maior valor para o grupo com nanotubos de dióxido de titânio 0,9% em comparação com o grupo controle (p<0,001). Conclusão: A adição de nanotubos de dióxido de titânio a um cimento resinoso auto-adesivo aumentou a os valores de resistência de união à dentina e radiopacidade no modo de polimerização química do agente cimentante (AU)

ABSTRACT

Devido a constante necessidade de desenvolver materiais biocompatíveis com propriedades osteocondutores e osteoindutoras, a presente tese conta com o desenvolvimento de dois estudos in vitro com fibra de carbono obtida a partir de fibra PAN têxtil, incorporada com diferentes íons de metais, na osteogênese com vistas à compreensão das necessidades da engenharia tecidual no desenvolvimento desse biomaterial com adequadas propriedades biológicas. As células foram obtidas dos fêmures de 09 ratos machos adultos (Wistar) pesando 300g, com 90 dias.Estudo 1: A partir da preparação da fibras foram obtidos corpos de prova de 4 mm de diâmetro e 2 mm de altura, dos seguintes grupos: fibra de carbono não ativada (FCNA), fibra carbono ativada (FCA) e fibra carbono ativada com prata (FCAAg). Após plaqueamento (n=5) em meio suplementado (MTS) e meio suplementado osteogênico (MTSO) foram analisados: viabilidade celular, conteúdo de proteína total (PT), atividade de fosfatase alcalina (ALP), interaçãocelular e formação de nódulos de mineralização. Foi avaliada a formação de biofilme nos corpos de prova, utilizando cepas de S. aureus, P. aeruginosa e E. coli. Na viabilidade celular, houve diferença estatística entre grupo controle celular (C) e FCA-MTS, FCAAg-MTS e FCAAg-MTSO. Em PT, não houvediferença, na ALP houve diferença entre C-MTS e as fibras, C-MTSO se mostrou semelhante. Em nódulos, houve diferença entre C-MTS e C-MTSO e as fibras do MTSO. Houve redução de formação de biofilme do S. aureus na FCAAg.Estudo 2: Foram obtidos corpos de prova da mesma dimensão do estudo 1 (n=5) dos seguintes grupos: fibra carbono ativada com prata (FCAAg), fibra carbono ativada com ouro (FCAAu), fibra carbono ativada com cobre (FCACu), fibra carbono ativada com paládio (FCAPd) e fibra carbono ativada com platina (FCAPt). Foram quantificadas a proliferação celular, viabilidade celular, formação de nódulos de mineralização, conteúdo de PT e ALP. Todas as amostras mostraram-se semelhantes quanto a proliferação celular, com exceção do grupo FCAAg comparado ao grupo controle (C). Sobre viabilidade celular, C obteve maior viabilidade que os outros grupos, e FCA obteve maior taxa que os grupos FCAAg, FCACu, FCAPt, sendo semelhante aos grupos FCAAu e FCAPd. Já os grupos FCAAu e FCAPd apresentaram diferença aos grupos FCAAg e FCACu. Na análise de expressão de PT apenas houve diferença entre FCA e FCAAu, sendo FCAAu com menor expressão de produção de PT. Na avaliação da ALP os grupos FCAAg e FACu mostraram diferença estatística e inferior com os grupos C, FCAAu, FCAPd e FCAPt, além disso, o grupo FCA mostrou menor taxa que C.Conclusões: As fibras utilizadas de base para a incorporação dos íons demonstraram grande potencial para uso como scaffold para reparação óssea, isso porque em ambos os estudos, na forma ativada e não ativada, as fibras apresentaram viabilidade celular e quantificação de cálcio satisfatórias. Sendo a versão não ativada mais econômica no que diz respeito ao tempo e custo de preparação. Mais estudos devem ser empregados a fim de assegurar sua segurança clínica em relação à citotoxicidade da incorporação de íons de ouro e paládio.(AU)


Due to the constant need to develop biocompatible materials with osteoconductive and osteoinductive properties, this thesis involves the development of two in vitro studies with carbon fiber obtained from textile PAN fiber, incorporated with different metal ions, in osteogenesis with a view to understanding the needs of tissue engineering in the development of this biomaterial with adequate biological properties. The cells were obtained from the femurs of 9 adult male rats (Wistar) weighing 300g, aged 90 days. Study 1: From the fiber preparation, specimens measuring 4 mm in diameter and 2 mm in height were obtained from the following groups: non-activated carbon fiber (FCNA), activated carbon fiber (FCA) and silver-activated carbon fiber (FCAAg). After plating (n=5) in supplemented medium (MTS) and supplemented osteogenic medium (MTSO), cell viability, total protein content (PT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, cell interaction and formation of mineralization nodules were analyzed. . Biofilm formation was evaluated in the specimens, using strains of S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and E. coli. In cell viability, there was a statistical difference between the cell control group (C) and FCAMTS, FCAAg-MTS and FCAAg-MTSO. In PT, there was no difference, in ALP there was a difference between C-MTS and fibers, C-MTSO was similar. In nodules, there was a difference between C-MTS and C-MTSO and MTSO fibers. There was a reduction in S. aureus biofilm formation on FCAAg. Study 2: Specimens of the same size as in study 1 (n=5) were obtained from the following groups: carbon fiber activated with silver (FCAAg), carbon fiber activated with gold (FCAAu), carbon fiber activated with copper (FCACu), palladium-activated carbon fiber (FCAPd) and platinum-activated carbon fiber (FCAPt). Cell proliferation, cell viability, formation of mineralization nodules, PT and ALP content were quantified. All samples were similar in terms of cell proliferation, with the exception of the FCAAg group compared to the control group (C). Regarding cell viability, C obtained higher viability than the other groups, and FCA obtained a higher rate than the FCAAg, FCACu, FCAPt groups, being similar to the FCAAu and FCAPd groups. The FCAAu and FCAPd groups showed differences to the FCAAg and FCACu groups. In the analysis of PT expression, there was only a difference between FCA and FCAAu, with FCAAu having lower expression of PT production. In the ALP assessment, the FCAAg and FACu groups showed a lower statistical difference compared to the C, FCAAu, FCAPd and FCAPt groups, in addition, the FCA group showed a lower rate than C. Conclusions: The fibers used as the basis for the incorporation of ions demonstrated great potential for use as a scaffold for bone repair, because in both studies, in activated and non-activated form, the fibers showed satisfactory cell viability and calcium quantification. The non-activated version is moreeconomical in terms of preparation time and cost. More studies must be carried out to ensure its clinical safety in relation to the cytotoxicity of the incorporation of gold and palladium ions. (AU)

The objective of the present study was to identify the potential ability on the xylanase production by locally isolated Bacillus pumilus BS131 by using waste fiber sludge and wheat bran media under submerged fermentation. Culture growth conditions were optimized to obtain significant amount of xylanase. Maximum xylanase production was recorded after 72 hours of incubation at 30 °C and 7 pH with 4.0% substrate concentration. In the nutshell, the production of xylanase using inexpensive waste fiber sludge and wheat-bran as an alternative in place of expensive xylan substrate was more cost effective and environment friendly.


Nos últimos dias, a fonte alternativa de carbono mais barata para fins de fermentação é desejável para minimizar o custo de produção. As xilanases têm se tornado enzimas atraentes como seu potencial no biobranqueamento da indústria de papel e celulose. O objetivo do presente estudo foi identificar a capacidade potencial na produção de xilanase por Bacillus pumilus BS131 isolado localmente usando lodo de fibra residual e farelo de trigo em meio de fermentação submersa. As condições de crescimento da cultura foram otimizadas para obter uma quantidade significativa de xilanase. A produção máxima de xilanase foi registrada após 72 horas de incubação a 30 °C e pH 7 com concentração de substrato de 4,0%. Resumindo, a produção de xilanase usando lodo de fibra residual de baixo custo e farelo de trigo como uma alternativa no lugar do substrato de xilano caro foi mais econômica e ecológica.

Abstract In recent days, cheapest alternative carbon source for fermentation purpose is desirable to minimize production cost. Xylanases have become attractive enzymes as their potential in bio-bleaching of pulp and paper industry. ABSTRACT

RESUMEN La chía (Salvia hispanica L.) es una semilla originaria de la zona sur de México y Guatemala, que se ha expandido a otros países de latinoamérica. Esta semilla ha sido utilizada con diferentes fines a lo largo de la historia, donde se destaca como producto alimentario debido a su gran versatilidad, ya que puede ser utilizada como semilla, harina integral, fracciones de fibra y/o proteína y aceite. En la actualidad, la investigación de nuevas fuentes alimentarias que otorguen beneficios a la salud ha logrado recopilar información sobre la composición química y valor nutricional de esta semilla y sus derivados (harina y aceite), donde se encuentra principalmente el contenido de ácidos grasos poli-insaturados n-3, destacando el ácido alfa linolénico (C18:3n-3, ALA), que se propone como fuente alternativa de este nutriente a alimentos de otros orígenes, además el contenido de fibra de la chía, principalmente fibra insoluble. En cuanto a los beneficios que se asocian al consumo de chía, se ha visto que tiene estrecha relación con enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles como dislipidemia, diabetes, hipertensión, cáncer, entre otras, logrando captar la atención de investigadores para controlar y prevenir estas patologías que van en aumento en la población mundial. Por lo tanto, se hace relevante profundizar en los conocimientos disponibles sobre esta semilla y sus subproductos para poder establecer los posibles mecanismos moleculares que están involucrados en la generación de beneficios para la salud. El objetivo de esta revisión es presentar una actualización de los beneficios asociados al consumo de semilla de chía y sus derivados.


ABSTRACT Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) is a seed native to the southern part of Mexico and Guatemala, which has spread to other Latin American countries. This seed has been used for different purposes throughout history, where it stands out as a food product due to its great versatility, since it can be used as a seed, whole meal flour, fiber and/or protein fractions and oil. Currently, the investigation of new food sources that provide health benefits has managed to collect information on the chemical composition and nutritional value of this seed and its derivatives (flour and oil). For polyunsaturated fatty acid content, n-3 is found, highlighting alpha linolenic acid (C18:3n-3, ALA), which is proposed as an alternative source of this nutrient to foods of other origins. In addition, the fiber content of chia, is mainly insoluble fiber. Regarding the benefits associated with chia consumption, it is closely related to chronic non-communicable diseases such as dyslipidemia, diabetes, type II, hypertension, cancer, among others, managing to attract the attention of researchers to control and prevent these pathologies that are increasing in world population. Therefore, it is relevant to deepen the knowledge available about this seed and its by-products in order to establish the possible molecular mechanisms that are involved in generating health benefits. The objective of this review is to present an update on the benefits associated with consumption of chia seed and its derivatives.

ABSTRACT

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between carbohydrate quality and sleep quality, depression, anxiety, stress and anthropometric measurements. Methods: The carbohydrate quality was calculated using the total fiber intake, ratio of whole grains to total grains, the ratio of solid carbohydrates to total carbohydrates, and the glycemic index. Sleep status was determined using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and nutritional status was determined by taking a 1-day food consumption record and food consumption frequency. Results: It was found that 20% of the participants with the highest carbohydrate quality had the highest sleep quality and the lowest body mass index. Conclusion: Adults should be informed that the quality of carbohydrates that they consume, was associated with better sleep quality and some micronutrients (potassium, magnesium, vitamin A-D-K-C-B1-B6, Folate) but no significant correlation was found between anxiety, depression, and stress scores


Objetivos: Este estudio se realizó para determinar la relación entre la calidad de los carbohidratos y la calidad del sueño, la depresión, la ansiedad, el estrés y las medidas antropométricas. Métodos: La calidad de los carbohidratos se calculó utilizando la ingesta total de fibra, la proporción de granos integrales a granos totales, la proporción de carbohidratos sólidos a carbohidratos totales y el índice glucémico. El estado del sueño se determinó utilizando el índice de calidad del sueño de Pittsburgh (PSQI) y el estado nutricional se determinó tomando un registro de consumo de alimentos de un día y la frecuencia de consumo de alimentos. Resultados: Se encontró que el 20% de los participantes con la mayor calidad de carbohidratos tenían la mejor calidad de sueño y el índice de masa corporal más bajo. Conclusión: Se debe informar a los adultos que la calidad de los carbohidratos que consumen, se asoció con una mejor calidad del sueño y algunos micronutrientes (potasio, magnesio, vitamina A-D-K-C-B1-B6, folato), pero no se encontró una correlación significativa entre las puntuaciones de ansiedad, depresión y estrés.

ABSTRACT

Background: Novel feeding strategies should be developed to produce high-quality meat in current goat production systems. Objective: To evaluate the effects of castration and the association of spineless cactus with sugarcane bagasse or elephant grass hay on nutrient intake, digestibility, performance, feeding behavior and carcass traits of feedlot kids. Methods: A total of 24 male kids (12 castrated and 12 intact), with an average initial weight of 18.5 ± 3.8 kg were allotted to a completely randomized 2 x 2 factorial design (sugar cane bagasse or elephant grass hay; intact or castrated), and confined for 70 days. Results: Nutrient intake and animal performance were similar between treatments. Sugarcane bagasse increased, when compared to elephant grass hay, the digestibility of dry matter (66.12 vs 62.88; p=0.005), crude protein (74.26 vs 70.95; p=0.029) and non-fibrous carbohydrates (91.94 vs 83.07; p<0.001). The forage source affected the time spent resting, ruminating and total chewing time, but there was no effect of diet on feeding and rumination efficiencies. Elephant grass hay increased, when compared to sugarcane bagasse, hot carcass weight (9.87 vs 10.79; p=0.025) and hot carcass yield (43.81 vs 46.87; p=0.013). Intact kids produced heavier hot carcasses when compared with castrated kids (10.80 vs 9.86; p=0.014). Conclusion: Feeding intact or castrated kids with sugar cane bagasse or elephant grass hay do not affect nutrient intake and performance. Feedlot goats have improved carcass traits if kept intact and fed elephant grass hay.


Antecedentes: Se requiere desarrollar nuevas estrategias de alimentación para producir carne de alta calidad en los sistemas actuales de producción de cabras. Objetivo: Evaluar el efecto de la castración y asociación de palma forrajera con bagazo de caña de azúcar o heno de pasto elefante sobre la ingesta de nutrientes, digestibilidad, rendimiento, comportamiento de alimentación y caracteristicas de la canal de cabritos de engorde. Métodos: Un total de 24 cabritos (12 castrados y 12 intactos) con peso inicial promedio de 18,5 ± 3,8 kg fueron asignados a un diseño factorial 2 x 2 completamente al azar (bagazo de caña de azucar o heno de pasto elefante; castrados o intactos) y confinados durante 70 días. Resultados: La ingesta de nutrientes y el rendimiento animal fueron similares entre tratamientos. El bagazo de caña de azúcar aumentó, en comparación con el heno de pasto elefante, la digestibilidad de la materia seca (66,12 vs 62,88; p=0,005), de la proteína cruda (74,26 vs 70,95; p=0,029) y de los carbohidratos no fibrosos (91,94 vs 83,07; p<0,001). La fuente de forraje afectó el tiempo de descanso, de rumia, y el tiempo total de masticación, pero no hubo efecto de la dieta sobre la eficiencia alimentacia y de la rumia. El heno de pasto elefante aumentó, en comparación con el bagazo, el peso de la canal caliente (9,87 vs 10,79; p=0,025) y el rendimiento de la canal caliente (43,81 vs 46,87; p=0,013). Los animales intactos produjeron canales calientes más pesadas en comparación con los castrados (10,80 vs 9,86; p=0,014). Conclusión: La alimentación de cabritos enteros o castrados con bagazo de caña de azúcar o heno de pasto elefante no afecta la ingesta de nutrientes y el rendimiento. Los cabritos tienen mejores características de canal si se alimentan con heno de pasto elefante y se dejan enteros.

Objetivo: Avaliar o efeito da castração e da associação da palma forrageira com o bagaço de cana de açúcar ou feno de capim elefante no consumo de nutrientes, digestibilidade, desempenho, comportamento ingestivo e características de carcaça de cabritos confinados. Métodos: Um total de 24 caprinos (12 castrados e 12 não castrados), com peso inicial médio de 18,5 ± 3,8 kg, distribuídos em um delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 2 x 2 (bagaço de cana de açúcar ou feno de capim elefante; inteiros ou castrados), confinados durante 70 dias. Resultados: O consumo de nutrientes e o desempenho dos animais foram semelhante entre os tratamentos. O bagaço de cana elevou, quando comparado com o feno, a digestibilidade da matéria seca (66,12 vs 62,88; p=0,005), proteína (74,26 vs 70,95; p=0,029) e carboidratos não fibrosos (91,94 vs 83,07; p<0,001). As fontes de fibra afetaram os tempos de ócio, ruminação e mastigação total, mas não houve efeito para as eficiências de alimentação e ruminação. O feno de capim elefante aumentou, quando comparado com o bagaço, o peso de caracaça quente (9,87 vs 10,79; p=0,025) e o rendimento de carcaça quente (43,81 vs 46,87; p=0,013). Os animais inteiros produziram carcaças quentes mais pesadas em comparação aos castrados (10,80 vs 9,86; p=0,014). Conclusão: Alimentar caprinos inteiros ou castrados com bagaço de cana ou feno de capim-elefante não interfere no consumo de nutrientes e desempenho. Caprinos confinados terão as características de carcaça melhoradas se mantidos intactos e alimentados com feno de capim elefante.
